The name of cute little critters
was greatly slandered in the west
'cause a lot of crooks were called skunks
when they were placed under arrest.
 
So the little critters suffered,
as their good name was stigmatized
in spite of all their gentle ways,
thus, their good name was compromised.
 
Them crooks was the cause of all this,
them two legged rustlers of yore,
and they plum ruined folks good will
toward critters that folks should adore.
 
'Cause a skunk's a good friend of man,
eatin' harmful rodents and such,
and never really does no harm
providin' he's not bothered much.
 
A skunk don't need his glands cut out
to be a good and faithful pet,
you need to treat him with respect
and, when you do, he's not a threat.
 
'Course skunks can get irritated,
especially when they have kits,
and when someone moves too darn fast
it's really apt to give them fits.
 
Now a skunk fit ain't like others
'cause they aim their back side at you,
then raise their tail up in the air
and in defense begin to spew.
 
So treat these critters with respect
and they'll be no bother at all,
just give them lots of room to move
and they will never aim at y'all.
