GUIDELINES/ JUDGING INFORMATION Entries will be judged by poet Erik Tschekunow and the owner of www.skunksarecool.com. Additional judges may be used if there are a high number of entries. Blind judging procedures will be followed. A few suggestions: -should involve skunks in a significant way (but skunks can be used metaphorically) -try to look beyond the smell; think about what other qualities skunks possess that might be poem-worthy. -we are looking for polished poems that demonstrate some sort of unique or personal connection to skunks. -avoid cliches. this particularly applies to purely humorous or descriptive poems. -happy, healthy skunks are preferred over dead, dying, or seriously injured skunks. -if there are dead, dying, or seriously injured skunks in your poem: be sure that you a)use a properly somber and mournful tone and/or b)celebrate the skunk's life. -give your poem a title!!! -for skunk information go to http://www.skunksarecool.com/info.html and follow links. -if you do use skunk "facts" (taxonomical information, defense mechanism description, etc) in some way, make sure your information is not completely inaccurate. -check
your poem for spelling mistakes and typos!!!!!! First Prize: $75, a skunk t-shirt Second Prize: $50, a skunk t-shirt Third Prize: $25, a skunk t-shirt Fourth, and Fifth prize: a skunk t-shirt |
